A step closer to TV blackouts in Canada

The final decision is still up to the Federal Court, but the CRTC has ruled in favour of Canadian TV. Here’s an excerpt from The Toronto Star article:

The [CRTC] released an important decision Monday supporting the principle of private broadcasters being able to obtain compensation for their on-air signals, which cable and satellite providers are currently able to get for free.

I do admit, this is good news for Canadian broadcasters, but I also think we’re kidding ourselves if we think cable companies won’t ever pass the cost on to consumers and that there will never be any blackouts. But I already wrote about the blackouts, back in November, so I’ll keep this posting short.
